The Strathmore and District Chamber of Commerce has been busy thinking up different ways to recognize and encourage businesses in Strathmore. Currently they are accepting nominations for the Strathmore and District Business Awards. The awards may have been done in the past but Lin Walker, with the Chamber, said they would like to think of this as the first annual.
“It kind of goes along with our shop local program in getting people to recognize there are top notch businesses and services available in Strathmore and just taking the time to recognize these businesses for what they do in the community,” said Walker.
There are three different categories for Business of the Year, small business, medium and large companies.
There will also be the Community Spirit Award to commemorate the business or organization that demonstrates excellence in enthusiastic support and promotion of the community.
“There are several local businesses that are really involved in things like relay for life and the make a wish and that sort of thing and they need to be publicly recognized for the good job that they do,” said Walker.
The third award category is the Emerging Entrepreneur for an individual in the business community who best shows hard work, dedication, free spirit and achievement.
The nomination progress began on August 30 and the deadline is September 24.  The winners will be announced at the Business Awards Evening
“We’re trying to have something happening everyday for small business week that would just recognize different businesses and that sort of thing around town,” said Walker.
Nominees do not need to be Chamber members, but the business must reside in Strathmore and area. Full awards criteria and the nomination forms are available at The Chamber office at 205 – 3rd Ave; Strathmore or they can be viewed on-line at www.strathmoredistrictchamber.com.
