Thieves break into Gleichen & District Library

Gleichen RCMP are seeking the publics assistance in solving the hamlet’s latest break and enter.

Thieves broke into the Gleichen & District Library between the evening of April 1 and the morning of April 2.

The criminals smashed through two doors of tempered glass with a piece of wood before stealing approximately $40 from the donation jar.

Surprisingly, to the best of the staff’s knowledge, that is all that was taken.

“That’s the strange thing, they went through all that effort to smash those windows and that’s all they took,” said Library Manager Faydra Beard of the stolen donation jar. “I had a laptop sitting there – four computers, all (the) books and everything else and (the donation jar) is all they took.

“It is just frustrating that someone would do that to a public place.”

The library, which serves the hamlet, the outlying area and Siksika has approximately 130 members and over 10,000 books.
