They’re back

The United Way Strathmore is back, and on June 30 they presented cheques to local organizations in need. The new board was formed in October of 2009, and their first order of business was to distribute the funds, which had been sitting from the former board.  The 2010 funding focus was ‘assisting families in need to live healthy and well in Strathmore’ and was where the guidelines came from.

The group had six agencies apply with a total request of $108,000. They were able to help five of the groups, but only for a split amount of $37,000.

“I feel like because it was a fairly quick turn around, not everyone knew about us, and some agencies didn’t know to apply,” said Cecilia Moore, with United Way Strathmore.

“We need to raise awareness in our community, all money raised in our community stays in our community.”

United Way Strathmore is currently looking for volunteers to help out, and the commitment can be as little or as much as the person wants to contribute. To find out more information about how you can help, contact the Wheatland Family and Community Support Services, 403- 934-5335.
