The badminton provincials took place in Canmore and Banff the weekend of the eighth.
Tyson Zarowny from Strathmore high school was the only one from town to go to provincials.

“He did very well,” said coach Kenton Zandee.

Zarowny finished with seventh place in the province.

Carley Melcher and Shavonne Tapaquon from Standard lost their first game and won the next two. With the wins the girls had a chance to play in the semi-finals on Saturday, where they took fourth place.

Michelle Ryan and Jennifer Geeraert played for the senior girls from Standard, and they won their last game of the competition.

‘They came up against some stiff competition I think. They did their best,” said Ed Yuel from Standard school.

“Whenever you have a provincial badminton tournament you can have some really advanced players attending. It’s a good experience for us to be able to see some higher levels of badminton.”
