Students faced off in a badminton tournament this past weekend, to see who would carry on to provincials which are being held in Edmonton May 7 and 8.
Kenton Zandee is coach to the Strathmore team, which consists of over 45 students.

“We are doing extremely well,” said Zandee about the days events. The tournament began at 8 a.m. and the seniors portion finished early, wrapping up by 2 p.m.

Jennifer Geereart and Michelle Ryan from Standard High School took the gold winning the girls doubles.

In the single boys match Tyson Zarowny, Strathmore High School, went against Tyson Newton from Didsbury.

“He beat me in the round robin 21-17, it was pretty close,” said Newton of his earlier match with Zarowny.

The two boys faced off and played the best out of three in the gold medal match.  Zarowny won gold after beating Newton 16-15. Newton took silver for his division. The two boys will both be heading off to provincials next month.
