Standard shaves their lids for a kid

On Thursday, Dec. 16 in Standard School, students, teachers and staff gathered in the school gymnasium to cheer on and celebrate with those who had their heads shaved in a special fundraiser called Shave Your Lid For A Kid.
Ms. Amanda Ellis spearheaded this fundraiser with a number of her Grade 12 students. Along with over 15 students, Brad Everett (Chair of Parent Council) and Ms. Ellis prepared to have their heads shaved.
Many parents and others in the community came out to see the big event. There was much laughter and tears. They weren’t tears of sadness, but rather tears that came to the eyes of many due to the selfless acts of kindness that these individuals showed.
One family in particular was moved as T.J. Dumonceaux (a kindergarten student), had his head shaved to honor his mom who has been battling breast cancer since the summer. After she started chemotherapy this fall, his mom, Cynde lost her hair and has been wearing a toque. T.J. received a toque from Lil Kapaniuk (an adopted grandmom in the community who he has bonded with), that matches his Mom’s.
Cynde finished her first round of chemotherapy in the middle of December and was informed that day that she needs to resume chemo at the end of December.
The students each received a toque from Shave Your Lid For A Kid and proudly wore them home at the end of the event. Ms. Ellis’ goal was to raise $2,000, but they actually raised between $3,500.-$4,000. Kudos go out to: Sean Huseby, Christian Rousseau, David Rasmussen, Keith Rasmussen, Austin Larsen, Zac Wells, Justin Kinney, Garrett Smith-McCormack, Duncan Michie, Abe Jensen, Cody Dale-McNair, Julian Love, Samantha Perkins, Berge Malmberg, Mason Zachariasen, T.J. Dumonceaux, Shaynna Duguay, Shaunna Duguay, Brad Everett and Ms. Amanda Ellis.
