The Stampede Challenge AAA Hockey Tournament took place in Strathmore, Calgary and Airdrie last weekend. This was the 16th year for the four-day event, and teams came from all over to take part. The tournament was made up of nine male divisions and two female.  Scouts have been known to line the stands looking for new and upcoming talent. This year Gold and Silver divisions were added to help accommodate the top teams and the developmental teams.

Kelly Bruce was one of the organizers for the challenge and said this year 85 teams registered to take part. “This is actually the first year there hasn’t been a lot of American teams. A lot of the tournaments we’ve had in the past we’ve had up to 40 American teams,” said Bruce. This year boasted mainly western Canada teams, but there was a team that made it out from Quebec.

There’s always little oops’s here and there but we haven’t had any really bad issues,” said Bruce.
