SpringFest cancelled

SpringFest is an event most members of the community look forward to when the nice weather hits.

This year, though, people were disappointed to find out that it had been cancelled May 29 due to the weather forecast for snow.

The Chamber of Commerce executive decided to cancel the event, rather than reschedule it.

“To reschedule it for another day isn’t an easy thing, especially when the town has events going throughout the summer, so there really isn’t a day unless we move it to a different venue,” said Mona Kado, who is on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

“The decision was that we could hold it, but would anybody actually show up if it snows?”

The problem with finding another venue is that the chamber would be trying to fit SpringFest in between other events going on, leading up to July 1. Indoor locations were looked at but are all booked. This is the first time SpringFest has been cancelled. The chamber is looking into having an alternate place for next year, an indoor location, so it doesn’t have to be cancelled again.

“It’s really disappointing because we had put a lot of work and planning into it, and it is one of the main town events that everybody looks forward to, but we had to make the call whether to hold it or not,” said Kado. Many other events around town were also cancelled due to the weather. SpringFest was one of the most anticipated.
