Spring Showcase blossoms with dance, song and drama

Rosebud School of Arts – Submitted

The Rosebud School of the Arts (RSA) Student Showcase Dance into Spring is a 90-minute extravaganza of dance, song and drama produced entirely by RSA students.

Third year RSA Mentorship Acting Student, Cassia Schramm comments, ”It’s a great opportunity for RSA students to perform in front of a live audience as we don’t get that many opportunities during our busy school year. It’s a privilege for the students to collaborate and present the work that we love and have worked so hard to perfect.”

RSA’s Education Director Maki Van Dyke adds, “There’s an incredible energy that flows through a room when you watch a young artist take a personal risk on stage and succeed. More than that, seeing students working together and supporting each other makes one feel that it is possible to live freely and creatively, whether in a formal theatre school or in our every day lives.”

In addition to highlighting the incredible talent at the Rosebud School of the Arts, the RSA Student Showcase Dance into Spring is also an annual fundraiser for student scholarships.

“Training and educating theatre artists is costly. At RSA, our intensive study program is accomplished through small class sizes and one-to-one acting and voice lessons. Rosebud School of the Arts receives no provincial or federal government support for its educational programs; yet, it produces graduates that contribute in meaningful ways to the cultural fabric of Alberta and Canada.”

Van Dyke explained that while the RSA Student Showcase Dance into Spring is free to the public, the students will be requesting donations from the audience in support of the Rosebud School of the Arts Scholarship Fund.

The RSA Student Showcase Dance into Spring takes place on April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Hope Covenant Church on 245 Brent Blvd, Strathmore.
