The Peewee Spartans have done it yet again. They played in the Tier IV provincial semi-finals against the Mill Woods Maulers on Nov. 13. The team has had a great season, which has exceeded even coach Doug Klauck’s expectations. The Spartans beat the Maulers 30-22 in the game on Saturday.
“They are just going crazy. My biggest hurdle this week is to try to keep them focused on what they have to do and not be too excited about what they’ve already accomplished,” said Klauck.
This is only the second year Strathmore has had a peewee football team, and after a bit of a rocky start they will be heading to Edmonton area for the provincial finals on Nov. 20.
“They have come so far and they are one game away from it all and they have got to stay focused.”
Klauck always thought his boys would do well in the league, but he didn’t anticipate making it to the provincial finals. The Spartans finished the regular season with a 5-3 record, including a pair of impressive playoff wins.
The team will be playing against the Spruce Grove Cougars on Nov. 20 to determine who will be the provincial champion.
