Spartan teams compete in playoff games over the Halloween weekend

It was a great weekend for football this past weekend. All three of the Spartan teams took part in their division playoffs on Oct. 30 and 31. The senior team played the first game of the weekend facing off against Highwood. The senior Spartans dominated the game, not even allowing Highwood a chance to score a single touchdown during the game.
“It was good to see the running game kind of fall into place,” said head coach Carl Seafoot.
For most of the season the senior team has been a bit of an away team, generally doing better away from their home field. This weekend was an exception to most of the season, as the boys dominated the field and prevented Highwood from scoring.
Seafoot thinks the victory can be attributed to the fact that everyone was only worrying about their line of offence/defence and not worrying about how everyone else is doing on the team.
The team has been having a difficult season, racking up a few losses, but the team pretty much would dominate the field on their winning days.
This won’t be the first time the senior boys have made it to the championships, but Seafoot is hoping it will turn out to be a little better than it was last year.
“Hopefully we’ll come out of it on the smiling side this time,” said Seafoot.
“I think we’re well in competition we just got to bring the game to the plate.”
Bantam spartans busted
The Bantam Spartans played the next game of the day against the Sylvan Lake Lions. It was a tie game of 14-14 going into the second half. In the third quarter, the Lions managed to get a touchdown but missed the extra point on the kick off. The Spartans worked hard to retaliate and ended up getting another touchdown for themselves bringing the score up to 22-20 for them after landing a successful kick. The game continued to be a nail biter into the fourth quarter. Both teams were evenly matched and it showed. The Spartans scored another touchdown, but the Lions quickly came up and passed them at the end of the game. The lions beat out Strathmore 34-28.
peewee spartans move on
The PeeWee Spartans played on Oct. 31 against Wetaskiwin. The PeeWee team is still a fairly new team, and while they have been doing better this season than last year, they are not quite where they would like to be in the standings. That didn’t seem to affect the boys last weekend, though, when they dominated the game. Everything they wanted to work into the game plan worked as planned. Coach Doug Klauck said the hard work put in by the team during practice was a big factor in helping bring them to victory. The Spartans won 29-16 and will be moving onto the Tier 4 championship game in Stettler on Nov. 6
“Its the first time any of these players have had a chance to play any sort of playoff game, never mind a championship game. They are pumped up and ready to go,” said Klauck.
