Show and shine draws people from all over

The sun shone brightly for the 17th annual Fun Runners Club Show and Shine held at Kinsmen Park July 17. Approximately 180 cars, trucks and bikes filled the park, as spectators walked around taking in the sights.
A face painter was stationed in a golf cart, recreated to look like a classic caddy, and some kids took part in a race on a Hot Wheels track.
“We had some really good comments. The dyno was a real crowd gatherer, much more so than the burnout contests we used to have at the Canadian Tire parking lot. There was a lot going on and people were quite happy with that,” said Todd Blakney, a member of the Strathmore Fun Runners club. A dyno is a chassis dynamometer, which basically measures the power of a vehicle.
There were 26 trophies awarded and almost 40 door prizes given away.
“The community was quite supportive with that,” said Blakney. The two BBQ’s which were being raffled went to Bryan Knight, who works at the Global Training Centre, and to Gary Peterson from the Standard/Rosebud area. The Fun Runners Club donates money raised from their Show and Shine, and this year they were happy to give away $600 to each of the Strathmore Fire Department, Wheatland Women’s Shelter, the Wheatland Food Bank and to STARS. The club also gave the pop and beer cans to Matrix Cheerleading at the Jump House to help them out. The club will be doing more said Blakney, but for now they need to sit and discuss what’s next.
