Rockyford Road Reconstruction on its way

Repairs to the Rockyford Road North in Wheatland County are well on its way to getting started.
A town hall meeting was held Jan. 13 at the Rockyford Community Centre with landowners and residents to talk with the County about the plan for rebuilding the road.
“They [residents] are enthused about it. They know the work needs to be done and they’ve been waiting for it,” said Ben Armstrong, reeve.
The road is currently banned, but before being able to pave the road the county needs to repair the road to a surface that they can pave on.
The road has been banned because it doesn’t have the capacity to hold the weight of the vehicles. The project is similar to the reconstruction of the road south of Highway 564 down to Highway 1. The County rebuilt approximately five miles and paved it so the road was not banned and residents could move grain and cattle on the road.
Armstrong said that this town hall meeting makes it easier for the landsmen to get everything signed up and everyone on board so the County can begin the work.
He said that not everyone has signed on yet, but is confident everyone will.
Armstrong hopes that everything gets finalized between the County and landowners within the next two months.
“Hopefully, within the year we can be paving it so the residents can use it and it’s not banned.”
