The Strathmore Reds faced off against Calgary’s Pro Ball Force, PBF, this past Sunday.
The two teams were supposed to face each other for a total of three games this weekend, but Saturday’s game was cancelled due to poor playing conditions. The Reds went against the junior PBF team at one p.m. and won the first game of the day by a score of 7-6.
“We came back to win by one run in the ninth inning,” said John Forno. The second game of the day was switched up and the Reds battled the senior PBF team. At the bottom of the sixth the Reds were down 2-0, and PBF racked up another three points before ending the inning. Jordan Schmidt came in as the relief pitcher after PBF got yet another run.
“We’re doing alright, hitting them hard but right at the guy, we’re not getting any timely hits,” said Darwin Armitage
The seventh inning was when things started to turn around for the Reds when they managed to get their first run of the game. PBF went to bat and hit a couple pop-ups that shut them down for the inning.
The Reds went up to bat and Gordan Armitage hit the ball way out into right field, giving the Reds men on second and third. The bases were loaded and the score was now at 6-2. Jarrett Frehlich gets a solid hit deep into the field bringing the score to 6-4, heading into the ninth inning.
It was the bottom of the ninth and the Reds went up to bat, Joey Koshman got the base run of the inning, the score was 6-5. Dillon Valparis hits one hard to centre, it looked like a homerun but it just barely missed making it over the fence. It was a close game and the Reds really stepped up to the plate in the last two innings. Calgary ended up winning the game 6-5.
