Planning for Disneyland

Band students at Holy Cross Collegiate, HCC, have already begun fundraising as much as possible for a trip to Disneyland in May. From September 2 to 11 the students were selling coupon books for $40 a piece.
“We sold 259 books. I think it was really successful,” said Sarah Lyons an organizer for the fundraiser.
This is only the second year HCC has had a band. Fortunately band members no longer have to be at the school for 7 a.m. for practice. It now takes place during school hours.
A trip to Disneyland sounds like fun but for the band, while they will have fun, they are going to compete against other bands.  The members are going to compete and be a part of the Anaheim Heritage Music Festival from May 12 to 15.
“We will compete there and we’re also auditioning for a chance to play at the park. So if we make the audition the high school band will get to play at Disneyland for a part of Disney Magic Music Days and they get to work with Disney musicians,” said Lyons.
The audition to play during the Magic Music Days is taking place in February and Lyons and the band are keeping their fingers crossed that they will be picked.
On September 25, there will be a bottle drive to raise more money and on October 22, a Halloween carnival is being planned. The carnival will take place at the school. At this time Lyons is not sure how much tickets will be.
“It will be a family thing, for kids of all ages. There will be a silent auction and haunted house and stuff like that. There will be dinner too,” said Lyons. Band members plan to keep fundraising as long as it takes to cover most if not all of the costs of the trip.
