Making fundraising fun

Approximately 130 people attended the second annual Fun, Fellowship and Festivities at the Holy Cross Collegiate March 26.
The night of fun is the parent council’s biggest fundraisers for the school during the year.
“It’s a fundraiser for the school and (all the proceeds go to) raise money for their core subjects,” said Ange Beemer, co-social chair of the Holy Cross Collegiate Parent Council.
Some of the games included crib, karaoke and Rock Band; and there were numerous other games for the guest to enjoy. There was a funny-money silent auction and a real money silent auction.
“(This is) the parent council’s main fundraiser – this is the one event that they focus on during the year and they put a lot of time and effort into it to support the school,” said Holy Cross Collegiate Principal Lavern Evans. “We did it last year and it was successful – a lot of people liked it and parent council definitely wanted to keep doing it. There seems to be more interest this year than last year, so it’s good.”
According to Evans, with the current tough economic times and the lack of money in the budget, “it’s good to have an injection from parent council, so (this event) helps a lot.”
