Juniors take to the curler ice

There were lots of “hurry hard” and “sweep” screams coming from the Strathmore Curling club Feb. 27 and 28, but also a lot of running after rocks as the Junior Curlers took to the ice.
With just a little guidance from some experienced curlers, the junior bonspiel seemed to be a great success and a lot of fun for those participating and spectators.
“It’s been really good,” said Lynette Aschenbrenner, organizer. “The kids are having lots of fun.”
On Feb. 27, eight teams of kids aged eight to 11 were on the ice to compete against each other, while 16 teams of kids 12 and older competed Feb. 28.
Each team got three games to play.
Everyone who participated received a prize. They could choose from movie tickets, mini-digital cameras, digital photo frames and Calgary Flames pillows.
There was a raffle for prizes as well, with laser tag vouchers and a framed photo of Sidney Crosby up for grabs.
Teams were from Strathmore, Indus, Chestermere, Brooks, Irricana, Crossfield, Medicine Hat and Calgary.
