The NSD Rangers Tier I soccer team out of Calgary went to Lethbridge from August 19 to 22 to compete in the Alberta U14 provincials. Troy Schneider and Leighton Johnson from Strathmore are a part of the team, which went through the regular season undefeated.
Both boys had recently taken part in the National Championships in Quebec as a part of Alberta all star team, where they won bronze. The U14 team continued their winning streak in Lethbridge. The team won two games then tied their third of the weekend. In their last game for gold they won.
The team will be competing in the nationals in Moncton, New Brunswick on Oct. 6 – 11.
“It’s pretty good,” said Troy Schneider about heading to nationals.
The last game of the weekend against Edmonton Juventus 96 was the only one Schneider said worried him, and the team a little.
“They dominated in the first,” said Schneider. The Edmonton team who the Rangers had played against in the last game were also undefeated in their regular season until the tournament.
Leighton’s brother Caleb plays on the NSD U12 team who were at provincials in Red Deer the weekend before and they also walked away with a gold medal from the weekend.
The U14 NSD Rangers will be heading to nationals undefeated and they hope they can continue their success.
