Girl hit by car recovering

It was a scary scene this past weekend as RCMP, EMS and the fire department were called to the scene of a vehicle pedestrian accident on Centre Street.
A two-year-old girl had darted out between two parked cars and was hit by an oncoming vehicle on June 6 at around 4:30 p.m.
Fortunately the driver of the vehicle was already going under the speed limit, after having just gone through a cross walk.
“No charges are being laid, it’s a matter of the child running out between two parked cars and the vehicle being right there. There was nothing the driver could do, it was just a very bad accident,” said Const. Bryan Allan of the Strathmore RCMP.
The child was first taken to Strathmore Hospital with undetermined injuries and was later transported to the Alberta Children’s Hospital by STARS air ambulance for further treatment and observation.
“It’s important with the warmer months coming, to keep an eye on your child at all times, and drivers need to be vigilant of the young children,” said Allan.
“People are going to play outside, and they (children) will be out of school soon, so just be more cautious when driving on the road and pay more attention.”
RCMP spoke to the Children’s Hospital on June 7, and the girl is in stable condition.
