Get ready to rumble

The fourth annual Red Neck Rumble Lacrosse Tournament took place May 27 to 29 at the Strathmore Family Centre.

“It was an excellent weekend, other than the weather a little bit, but luckily we were indoors,” said referee Marlon Habing. Habing has been a referee for the Red Neck Rumble for the past four years. The Tyke division didn’t keep score because they are still in training mode, so all the Tyke teams received first place awards.

For all the other divisions, there were first and second place awards handed out.

“The tournament went really, really well, was really successful. We had lots of compliments on how well our refereeing is and how well scheduled we were,” said Carey Seminuk, one of the organizers of the Rumble.

The tournament featured teams from Red Deer to Okotoks and even with all the players there were no major injuries.

“We had a good showing and they all played hard. The coaches and fans were great,” said Habing.

There were between 500 to 600 entries for the raffle which was held. Over 80 items were donated. The items donated to the raffle ranged from flowers, to bikes, to tools, and it was hard for people to decide said Seminuk.

“We actually ran out of raffle tickets and had to reprint more,” said Seminuk.
