The 60’s will be making a comeback in Strathmore on Nov. 6. A group of musicians from Calgary called ‘The Sixties’ will be performing at the Station. The band is dedicated to playing 60’s music and will even be bringing go-go dancers to help entertain the crowd.
“What we’re up to here is recreating the music from those days and we just have a ton of fun doing it, and doing it right this time,” said Terry Medd who plays guitar and is one of the vocalists for the band.
Medd and band mate Jim Lewis first met on a bus in Riverdale in 1959, and it was an instantaneous friendship bound by a love for music. As time progressed throughout the year they met Reed Crapo, Ollie Bee and eventually Dennis Davies. The men joined together and began their own band, paying homage to the stars of their generation.
While they have always stuck together, all of the members have worked on various other projects over the years.
Many of the ballads they will be performing are still known by many people today, young and old alike.
“When we play, it doesn’t matter if you’re 60 years old or 16, people will have heard those songs,” said Medd.
They have always carried their love of the 60’s Medd said it is apparent even in today’s generation that many of the thoughts and ideals from back then are still around in some form or another today.
“The era then was certainly one of a lot of change and was a really vibrant time. It’s not unlike now, there’s still change going on. Then people were starting to think about the environment and the earth and music was representative of the youth culture at the time and I think you could probably say that today as well,” said Medd.
The night promises to be a crowd pleaser, and the years of combined experience for the band almost guarantees a great time for all those who attend. Tickets are still available at various outlets in town for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to buy them yet.
