Fish off

The 12th annual Rob Rebeyka Memorial Fishing Derby had 70 participants come down and take part in a day of fishing. Rebeyka had been a member of the Wheatland Conservation and Wildlife Association and had been a member of the RCMP before he was killed in a motor vehicle accident.
“It’s in memory of him, and he was an avid fisherman, that’s why it’s a fishing derby,” said Justin Carlson, a member of the conservation. The derby was open to anyone under the age of 16 and over 65 and it only cost $1 to register. Everyone who participated left with a prize and with the help of Sarcee Fisheries and other sponsors; the conservation was able to provide bait and poles to those who needed them. Garrett Yasyki won first for the biggest fish caught; Jordan Geartz won second. The youngest boy and girl fishing were Anthony David, and Keira Buffam.
