Exceeding expectations

People gathered at Scott Farms just outside of Mossleigh for a silent auction and other goodies on August 28. Approximately 100 people were invited to take part in the event, which started at noon. It was a fun gathering for everyone who joined, but there was an underlying cause for the auction and gathering.
“We were raising money for Alexandria Gold. She received a liver transplant on the Friday morning, the 27,” said Tina Scott. Five-month-old Alexandria had Biliary Atresia, a rare disease which affects the livers of newborns. The liver damage incurred is caused from injury and loss of the bile ducts, which drain bile from the liver. If bile builds up it can cause liver damage, scarring and a loss of liver tissue. If the liver fails a transplant is needed. This disease is more common in girls and usually results in the need for a liver transplant in the first year or two of life.
Luckily for little Alexandria everything is looking good.
The Scott family had been planning to help the baby and her young parents for a few weeks and they were pleasantly surprised by the support and generosity they were shown in their fundraising venture.
“Our target was $5,000 and we’re over $6,000 right now. We’re even thinking we may get $7,000 to help her young parents,” said Scott.
Scott said people donated everything from pictures to money to services, such as a guitar player who entertained the crowd. The money raised was sent to the family through a bank transfer on August 30, and as more trickles in, it will be sent.
