Crowther Memorial Junior High School, CMJHS, hosted the 4J boys Zone Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 13. Five teams – Red Deer Lake, Olds, John Paul II (Okotoks), Canmore and Okotoks – came out to take part in the tourney, which saw back-to-back games being played during the day.
“We ran a 2 pool round robin, with everyone making playoffs,” said Travis Ericksteen, coach of the CMJHS team.
The Crowther Cougars defeated Olds in the quarterfinals, while Okotoks took out the John Paul II team. The semi-finals saw the Cougars go up against Red Deer Lake and Canmore against Okotoks.
The Cougars came out on top by defeating Red Deer Lake and advancing into the finals. Okotoks wasn’t so lucky – Canmore beat them in the semi-finals. Okotoks were once again defeated in the bronze medal game, which was won by Red Deer Lake.
“In the gold medal match, Canmore took the gold, needing all three games to defeat CMJHS, who received the silver medal,” said Ericksteen. Last year the team had lost the bronze medal match and placed fourth, so they were happy to walk away with the silver this year at zones.
