Crowds who didn’t gather to watch the football playoffs or volleyball at Holy Cross Collegiate could be found at Crowther Memorial Junior High, CMJH. There was a senior high junior girls volleyball tournament held at the school on Oct. 30. The Cougars had high morale going into each of their games, and their team spirit was likely a big factor in helping hold their near spotless record.
“In our last round robin game we played Brooks and we beat them, it was a closer game. Then we met them again in the final and it was a little easier,” said coach Lavern Lein.
The girls played five matches during the tournament and finished undefeated.
The team will be going to zone finals on Nov. 13 in Brooks. There will be approximately seven teams at zones and it should determine the zone winner.
“It’s a fairly strong team this year and most of the players I had last year and so it’s just a continuation of building,” said Lein.
The team has only lost one tournament this year when they played Red Deer. They are seeded first going into zones and last year they ended in second. They will be playing Chestermere, Olds and John Paul II out of Okotoks.
“We’re just going to continue with our regular practices. Nothing really special, just going to continue with what we’ve been doing,” said Lein.
