Collecting items for Calgary Drop In Centre

A business in Strathmore is doing its part to help others by collecting items for the Calgary Drop In and Rehab Centre.

Assist Business Centre tries to support different initiatives, and will be collecting travel mugs and hygienic items for donations.

“I think it’s a good cause and we’re more than happy to do it,” said Grace Schouten from Assist Business Centre.

The group is focusing on travel mugs after Schouten saw a request on the Free Cycle Calgary website, www.freecycle.org.

The website gives people the opportunity to post different items they have and don’t need anymore or items that they want.

Schouten saw a post from someone who works at the Drop In Centre for travel mugs they can give out as reimbursement to volunteers who clean for them in the morning.

They are looking for clean travel mugs with lids.

“That lead to what else do they need,” said Schouten. “We thought we’d try and collect it for them.”

Assist Business Centre will also be collecting travel or regular size soap, shampoo, razors, combs, deodorant, toothbrushes and paste along with other items.

They will be collecting items on a ongoing basis, so make sure to get them to the Drop In Centre said Schouten.
