Canada Day

Town council met to have their final discussion about the Canada Day events on June 9. The firefighters pancake breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and this year they plan to set up a mini carnival to help keep the adults and kids entertained while they wait. They hope to have a bouncy house and face painters. Kids under six-years-old will eat for free, and for everyone else it will be a flat rate of $3 per plate. Staff from both EPCOR and the rural fire department will be there to help.
The fireman’s raffle will be at noon and they are planning to announce the winner at Kinsmen Park, instead of having people sit around the fire hall.
This year there are four new citizens being introduced and council is hoping the singer of O Canada will be able to do an English and French version.
Due to recent weather, construction of the amphitheatre is taking longer than anticipated, and there have been discussions with Calgary Stampede who may lend the Coke stage to the Town for the day.
The cake decorating, cake auction and cake cutting will be taking place from 12:45 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
At 2 p.m. there will be canoe races at Kinsmen Lake. This year council and town administration will have teams participating.
Katie Rox, the Keister Family Fiddlers, Pulse, Mullen’s magic and variety show and Hysteria will be set up at different times through-out the day providing entertainment.
There will also be the Nightingale Karaoke contest in the southwest gazebo with prizes being awarded.
The day will end with a bang when the fireworks go off at 11 p.m.
