A ‘wild’ time at Half Pint Tournament

The annual Half Pint Tournament took place on Family Day, Feb. 15, and was a great success
The four, five and six year old hockey players each got to play two games and took away goodie bags.
“It was very successful,” said Heather Clayton, tournament organizer. “We had a lot of good teams and a ton of fun.” Clayton said the tournament ran very smoothly and was on time.
The theme of the tournament was “Where the Wild Things Are” because the movie based on the book came out recently and it was a proper theme for the age group.
Each player took home a goodie bag that included a mini-hockey stick and shirt that said “Where the Wild Things Play” along with chips and juice from Sobey’s and a lunch voucher from Dairy Queen.
Someone was also selling hockey cards and paraphernalia at the arena, including some rare cards, said Clayton.
Clayton said it was really nice that the Cheadle Lion’s Club was hosting their annual Family Day pancake breakfast and many parents and kids could enjoy both.
“It couldn’t have been a better family oriented day,” said Clayton. ”There were lots of kids [players] who came back with their faces painted, they were sweating and the make-up running down their face. It was so cute.”
In total there were 12 teams, including four Strathmore teams and others from Rockyford, Indus, Calgary, Okotoks and Airdrie.
