On New Year’s Eve, you can’t always be with your loved ones to celebrate when the clock strikes 12. This year the Langdon Community Association (LCA) is offering the next best thing.
“We will count down with every province in Canada,” said Chrissy Craig beautification director/grants coordinator of the LCA.
Beginning at 9 p.m. and going every hour until 1 p.m., participants of the Red, White and Canadiana New Year’s bash will celebrate with other provinces.
“So if you want to celebrate with Ontario we will coun tdown and celebrate at 10 p.m. with Ontario,” said Craig.
Craig said the LCA is still working on confirming the entertainment but there will either be a live band or a DJ coming in for the night.
Tickets, which are $30/each or $50/per couple, include a small bottle of champagne and a Canadiana dinner, which will feature each province on the menu.
“For Alberta there’s going to be some sort of beef and there’s going to be wheat buns for Saskatchewan,” said Craig.
“So there’s something that each province is known for that will be on the menu.”
There will also be items like a blue potato salad for Newfoundland, peaches-and-cream corn for Ontario. Smoked Pacific salmon for British Columbia and more. Craig and Rob Lehman, events coordinator with the LCA, came up with the idea.
“We’re just trying to be more involved in the community. We’ve really had a good momentum, the last two years it’s really been a new branding of the LCA so we’re trying to do activities every couple of months just to engage the community,” said Craig.
“It will be a fantastic time, there will be great community togetherness and it’s in town. I would love for us to sell out, we sell out at 100 people so I would love to sell out.”
The dress code is semi-formal but Craig said that could mean jeans and a nice top, or a nice dress. It can be whatever people want, just no hoodies and sweat pants or casual clothes.
The event, while a way to bring the community together, is also a fundraiser for the LCA. The money will go into the LCA fundraising account said Craig, which is currently going to the new playground. Any funds left over will be used towards other fundraising projects.
Langdon Citizen on Patrol members have offered to drive people home within Langdon for a small donation.
Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the dance follows at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Mountain View Credit Union or online at www.eventbrite.com/event/8846358697.
