McLean, Jack

McLean,Jack

Jack McLean of Strathmore, formerly of Toronto, passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital on June 12, 2024.  Jack will be missed by his brother, Scott Coonfer (Norma); his sister, Sandy Cartwright (Dylan); his cousins, Arlie Anderson (who he always called his twin sister) and Jamie Erichsen; and his nieces and nephews, Shelby and Matt Coonfer, Ty and Shay Cartwright; as well as his many friends at “the Wheatie”, and his dog, Hudson.

Jack was predeceased by his Mom, Doris Coonfer, in 2022, his step-dad, Dale, in 2001; and his faithful companion and long distance hauling co-pilot, Pepper.

Jack was born on December 26, 1947 in Orangeville, Ontario and lived in Toronto until 1982, when he moved west to Alberta, to be with the rest of his family. Jack loved his vacations in Puerto Vallarta; he was an excellent long distance truck driver hauling across Canada and the US (he was always on time!);  and he enjoyed many good times riding his Harley.  Jack lived his life by the words of his favourite quote: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a ride!”.

It was his wish that there be no service held, but we will buy a last round on Jack at the Wheatie, in a private celebration at a later date. If friends so desire, a memorial tribute may be made to Calgary Humane Society, or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
