SCHMIDT, Douglas William
September 19, 1958 – Strathmore, AB
March 3, 2017 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Doug Schmidt on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 58 years.
Doug was born and raised in Strathmore, AB where he worked at the Western Feedlot, Strathmore Seed Cleaning Plant and UFA, until he started long-haul truck driving, which he did for over twenty-five years. Doug kept very active with sports, most notably: baseball, hockey and Tae Kwon Do, until his back injuries no longer allowed him to. Besides sports, he loved to spend his time camping, fishing, singing karaoke and playing pool. Most importantly he loved making memories with his daughters, Sonya and Megan. Doug will be lovingly remembered as an extremely kind man who always tried to make others laugh and put others before himself.
Doug is survived by his daughters, Sonya (Adam) Soch and Megan Schmidt (Jay Lowe); friend and mother of his daughters, Shelly Gardner; siblings, Lauri-Ann (Randy) Lowe, Janice Steinhubl (Rick Piche), Lorne Schmidt and Tammy (Daryl) Hawkins; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Sarah, Rick, Shayna, Christopher, and Jamie; and great-nephew Axton.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Doreen Schmidt; brother Randy Simpson; nephew Kelly Lowe; grandpa Jack Issard; and grandma Rosie Issard, who was very special to Doug.
Memorial Services was held at the Langdon Community Church (23 Centre Street N, Langdon, AB) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
In living memory of Doug Schmidt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
