McKAY, Frank Laing
May 19, 1923 – November 18, 2017

Frank passed peacefully with his loving family at his side at the Sagewood Care Centre in Strathmore at the age of 94 years. Frank was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the youngest of 6, born to Scottish homesteaders, Lewis and Agnes McKay and grew up in the Trenville, AB area. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his daughters, Bev (Clive) Overton of Radium Hot Springs, BC, Laura (George) Matheson of Strathmore and Heather Rose (Randy Hooser) of Calgary, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-granddaughters. Frank was a proud WWII veteran, who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Frank and Betty met while serving in England and were married there in 1945, almost 72 years ago, before returning to farm in Canada. Frank was also a grain buyer for many years, retiring from the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1983. Frank and Betty spent happy retirement years travelling, and as snowbirds in Orangewood Shadows, Mesa, AZ for 17 years. We would like to thank the doctors and special staff at Sagewood who cared for Dad so well during his final chapter of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 Poppy Fund (Box 2041, Strathmore, AB T1P 1K1) or the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (800, 7015 Macleod Tr. SW, Calgary T2H 2K6). A Celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Strathmore Legion Memorial Hall at 2:00 pm.
