BOOTH, George Henry

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of my dear husband George Henry Booth on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 77. George was born in Virden, Manitoba on April 9, 1939. George lived in the area known as the Woodnorth District and went to the Boss Hill School. George grew up on a farm and lost his Dad at age thirteen. He ran the farm with the help of his mother, Winnie, and started work outside the farm at age 17. He worked for the MR of Wallace where he took his heavy duty Mechanic license under the Caterpillar Dealership Powel Equipment in Brandon, Manitoba. He was foreman in the summer and repaired the M.D equipment in the winter. He married his wife, Alice, on September 9, 1961 and they moved to Alberta in 1966. They started their business in 1976 called Booth Construction Ltd. and operated this until 2016 when he had a stroke. George became a Commercial Pilot in 1968 and trained at the Calgary International Airport. He flew commercially for a few years on the pipeline and for his own Company, this was his passion. He was predeceased by his father, George Booth, in 1953 and mother, Rowena Margaret (Kirkpatrick) Booth, in 1975, and an older brother at birth. George is survived by his wife Alice Hilda (Rouse) Booth of 56 years and brother Victor Robert Booth. Close family members are Norah (Rouse) & Harry Driedger, Louise & Arthur Rouse, Jim Rouse, Shawn & Ernie Rouse, Margaret, Doug, Winnie, Andy, David, Kirkpatrick and families with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. George’s health was impacted by a second stroke on November 10, 2016. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family. George was a gentle, caring man and lived each day to the fullest with his witty ways, compassion, and honor. We know he is in heaven with his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Gleichen Community Hall at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, George and family request donations be given directly to the Strathmore and Wheatland County Handi-bus Association (c/o 680 Westchester Rd., Strathmore, AB, T1P 1J1).
