BLOXHAM, Blair

Blair Bloxham passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Cold Lake, Alberta at the age of 76 years. Blair will be dearly missed by his wife Audrey, his daughter Toni (Colin Pearce), his two sons David (Cathleen) and Scott (Kelly), his grandchildren Jeromi, Kambal, Alison, Jack, and Tim (Jessica) and countless other family and friends. Blair was born on December 24, 1940 in Edmonton Alberta, son of Anita and Leonard Bloxham. His sister Lennie followed in 1948. He grew up and attended school in Edmonton but spent significant time in Canmore, an area of the world that was very special to him. He met Audrey in 1960 and they were married on March 31, 1962. Their children soon followed, first Toni in 1964, then David in 1967 and finally, equally loved but with much less vigorous photographic documentation, Scott in 1971. Blair attended RCMP training in Ottawa in 1959. He served first with the RCMP and then the Calgary Police Force. He left police service after Toni’s birth in 1964, opting for a career in Insurance. His first job in the industry was with Federated Insurance, a position that saw him performing inspections all over the province of Alberta. Over the years he filled numerous positions with many companies, finally choosing to retire in 2010 after 45 years in the industry. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Blair volunteered his time to the Story Book Theatre and Pumphouse Theatre societies. Initially he supported productions, often catering lunches. Later he served as Producer for a number of productions and eventually served as President of the Pumphouse Theatre Society. Blair also volunteered his time in his daughter’s classroom working with student reading groups at Terre des Jeunes school. For the last 20 years, Blair was heavily involved in the dog agility community, both as a competitor and a competition judge. He accepted judging assignments all over North America and loved traveling and meeting people at the different events. He was a fixture at the Championships for many years where he worked tirelessly and had a big part in making the event run smoothly. Dog agility was something he greatly enjoyed and was passionate about doing well. A memorial service in Blair’s memory will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Strathmore United Church, (410- 4 Street, Strathmore Alberta) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Blair’s memory to Alberta Herding Dog Rescue which can be accessed through Facebook, or a charity of your choice.
