BIBLOW, Lydia

BIBLOW, Lydia

Lydia Mary Biblow was born on January 18, 1926 and passed away July 27, 2016 at age 90. Lydia was the eldest of 7 siblings born to Nikodemus and Rose (Segmiller) Hertz who immigrated to Canada and struggled through the depression and dry conditions of the dirty 30’s. Lydia grew up on the family farm near New Brigden/Oyen and took her High School via correspondence with her final year completed at St. Mary’s Girl’s School in Calgary. Lydia went on to become a school teacher and taught in Oyen, Acadia Valley, Foremost, Rosebud and finally the Catholic Separate School Board in Calgary. Lydia loved teaching, especially little children. After retiring from teaching, she established the babysitting room at St. Cecilia’s and looked after children during Mass. Lydia was a devout Catholic and was very proud to be a member of the CWL for 70 years and for being honoured at St. Cecilia’s 50th Anniversary. Lydia was predeceased by her son Howard in 1974, her parents Nick Hertz and Rose Hertz plus 4 siblings: Rosie Hertz, Emily Buchanan, Marjorie Crawford and Ralph Hertz. Lydia is survived by her children Gordon Biblow, Twylla Tyson, Karen Hunter (Dale) and Linley Biblow and grandchildren Dustin, Nick (Janelle), Adelita (Hunter), Erin and Levi and her siblings Dorothy Smigelski and Danny Hertz (Bonnie) along with an extended family of relatives. Funeral services were held on August 4, 2016 at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Parish. If desired, donations can be made to St. Cecilia’s (321 – 90th Avenue SE, Calgary T2J 0A1). The family wishes to thank the Staff at the Southwood Care Centre Hospice for the wonderful care Lydia received over the past 2 months.
