Betty passed away at the Strathmore Hospital on February 5, 2012 at the age of 83. She is survived by her three sons and their families; Ronald (Annie) and their children Lynette (Lyle) and Katie as well as Lynette’s children Shanice and Hailey and Katie’s son Harlen; Brad (Katie) and their children Melissa (Mike), Jennifer (Darren), and Samantha; Greig (Brenda) and their children Jessica and Lenny; and daughter-in-law Heather and her children Cary, Chad, and Calsey. She is also survived by her sister Joan (Renate), numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ron in 2008 as well as her son Larry in 1989. Betty was born in Selkirk, Manitoba, and shortly afterwards her family relocated to Calgary where she grew up with her seven siblings and her loving parents, John and Irene. Betty met and fell in love with Ron and the two of them raised their family in Calgary. After the four boys moved on Betty and Ron moved to the dream home they built at Chestermere Lake. In 1994 they then moved to Strathmore where they both lived until they made the final move to be with all those that went before them. Betty’s sharp sense of humor, the way she would confront every situation openly, her quick wit, and the way she always said what she felt at that time, was something all those that knew her will miss forever. The family would like to thank the home care personnel in Strathmore and the wonderful staff and friends at the Strathmore Hospital. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Operation Eyesight Universal (4 Parkdale Crescent NW, Calgary, AB T2N 3T8) to contribute to a life saving well in Africa that will be drilled in both Betty’s and Ron’s name, memorializing the lives they shared with all of us.
