He is survived by his beloved wife Marjorie (nee MacNeil), son Gerard (Debbie) of Eckville, daughter Anita Dyck of Cluny; grandchildren Justin (Emily) Dyck of Strathmore, Kelita (Terry) Topolnisky of Edmonton, Alicia (Joel) Dyck of Strathmore, Shelby Gibeau of Lethbridge, Rosemary and Dusty Gibeau of Rosemary, and Lance and Cody Laschowski of Two Hills; brother Ernest (Theresa) Gibeau of Strathmore; sister Laurette (Ron) Doucet; former daughter-in-law Tammy Cage, mother of Kelita, Shelby, and Dusty; and former son-in-law Blair Dyck, father of Justin and Alicia. Born in Cluny on February 4, 1935, Phil farmed the land settled by his grandmother Oliva Gibeau in 1909, for more than 55 years. Phil was very active in the community with many years of service to the Cluny Rural Fire Protection Association and over 40 years of service to the Cluny Volunteer Fire. He served as a member and Treasurer of the Rural Fire Association and the Cluny Fire Department, as well as Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief of the Cluny Fire Department. Phil was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus having been a member for over 55 years. He served on the Gleichen/Cluny Recreation Board, as well as many other organizations such as the Royal Canadian Legion and the 4-H Beef Club. Additionally, he was a member and Chairman of the local Board of the United Grain Growers. Phil was predeceased by a son Francois Gibeau in infancy, father Wilfred Gibeau, mother Lydie (nee Cretin) Gibeau, and sister Rachel Szabo. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cluny at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am with Father Garry LaBoucane OMI officiating. Reception will follow the Funeral Mass at Cluny Hall. Cremation to take place after the service with inurnment to be held in Gleichen Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only by request.
