BICKEL, Helen

 

Helen was born on February 26, 1914 in Plettenberg, Germany.  She immigrated to Canada in 1958 and became a Canadian citizen in December of 1965.  In Germany, Helen worked in a butcher shop where her husband Otto was a butcher.  She traveled from Germany to Rockyford, Alberta to join her husband who was working in the local Rockyford butcher shop. Helen was a member of the Rockyford CWL and both she and Otto worked as caretakers at St. Rita’s School in Rockyford. They were also caretakers at St. Rita’s Rectory and Church.  She was always a very busy lady.  Helen was predeceased by her husband in 1980, and also her daughter Edeltraudt Wiedfeld, of Germany, who passed away this past spring.  She is survived by her daughter Monika Bartelen, of Toronto; grandchildren Michael, Pamela, Iris, Helmut, Peter, and Claus; and great-grandchildren Justin, Matthew, Kathy, and Erik.  A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Rockyford, at 11:00 a.m.  If desired, donations in Helen’s memory may be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance (Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, T2E 8M7) or to the Strathmore Hospital Palliative Care Unit (200 Brent Blvd, Strathmore, T1P 1J9)  To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.  WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME LTD.
